What is a first home loan?

First home loan is a loan facilitated for young adults aged 18 to 34 who want to buy their first home.

This loan allows you to borrow up to 90% of the purchase price, and in some cases up to 100% if you have a guarantor.

You should be aware that you cannot borrow more than 5 times your income, including any other loans such as student loans and consumer loans.

Banks in Norway are regulated by Lending Regulations and you must be able to service the loan with an interest rate increase of 3 percentage points.

For those older than 34, it will depend on the individual bank whether you will be able to get a first home loan. Some banks also offer first home loans to people over the age of 34.

Conditions & facts about first home loans

→ Total debt should not exceed five times total annual gross income.

→ Loans can be granted up to 90% of the property value/purchase price, real security is accepted for any missing equity.

→ 10% of the purchase price + costs in equity.

→ You must be over 18 years old

→ You must be resident in Norway

→ You must be permanently employed or have an income that provides good financial ability to service the loan

→ You must be a first-time buyer
